Untitled/藕断丝连 is an installation composed of two video projections facing each other, with a suspended strand of lotus root slices made from epoxy resin, beads, and spices hanging between them. One projection shows clouds drifting across the sky; the other, waves on the Hudson River—footage captured by the artist in 2019. The lotus root, suspended between sky and water, becomes a quiet axis of tension between movement and stillness. Casting shadows onto each screen, the sculpture links the projections in rhythmic interplay.

The title references the Chinese idiom “藕断丝连” (ǒu duàn sī lián), a recurring motif in Zhuang’s work, which speaks to lingering threads that persist even after rupture. Drawing from natural forms, the piece reflects on the quiet endurance of emotional ties—less as instruments of control than as resonant forces that flow with and through us.
